Complications

So after all of my hard work. Selecting and editing the photos. Creating multiple versions of each potential card. Agonizing over which one to use. Fine tuning tiny elements that will go completely unnoticed by 99.9% of the people who receive them. Vacillating on the old Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas debate. After all this, now, NOW, there is a major setback.

My goldfrapping printer isn't working. Every time I try to print one on the fancy schmancy photo greeting card paper, she jams up.

I am muy frustrado.*

I have decided in the interest of my sanity, not ruining a bunch of expensive paper and the distinct possibility that I will throw the printer out in the yard, I will hold off on attacking the problem until tomorrow when I have had what I hope will be a good night's sleep. Something that hasn't happened in several days thanks to a sickly toddler who refused to sleep anywhere but in my bed. Which anyone who has ever slept with a toddler knows that means she was the only one getting any sleep. But after more than a little consternation on her part, we got her to sleep in her bed.

Tomorrow. That printer better work.

*Sometimes I am amazed by how much Spanish I know. One drunken night, I spoke nothing but Spanish all night. Apparently having a full conversation with a lovely Mexican woman. Normally, I don't speak it all that well. In fact, I would say that I don't speak it at all. But then I pull out words like this. Where from, she says?

  6. Funny, I took German in HS. Whenever my German buds and I would drink back in the day, we could speak it fluently. Weird how that happens.

  8. Printers never work when you need them the most. I've actually just went and bought a new one in order to finish a project before.

I couldn't take it anymore so out the door I went...

Hopefully, yours is behaving better today. Otherwise, serĂ¡ en un gran problema.

My printer sucks, too. And it was brand new last Christmas. Muy sucko.

    Yep, I speak Spanish, too.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

  10. Ugh! Something similar happened to me last year with a bunch of damn calendars I created. I started crying. Let's hope you held yourself together a little better than that. ;)

  12. Love your blog! I don't think I would have held it together as well as you did. Your daughter is beautiful (I know what you mean about hell on wheels--my son is the same way--I always say it's a good thing that he's cute).

  16. Grr, printers can be so pesky. I hope it cooperates today.

If I see you at BlogHer'10, we should totally practice our Spanish over cocktails.

  17. How did it work out?

Hey, did you see the movie Office Space? There is a great printer abuse scene there.

  18. Tell me it's working by now.
My husband's Spanish (which he swears he lost most of by living for a semester in a French speaking country) seems to come back full force when he's in need of swear words and taunts.

  19. I am so sorry! But if it helps any you are 100 percent ahead of me on cards. I'm still at the "hoping to get cards done" stage, which is just plain sad in any language lol! among other things on my "hope to accomplish" list is to bathe our dog, so we and our guests don't have to have a "fleas" navidad!!

    Hang in there!

  21. I can read Spanish - I can even write Spanish. When I have to, I can listen and understand Spanish. Pero, I cannot speak Spanish well enough to converse with someone - it's like my brain goes into fart mode and gets stuck.
