I'm a Reader

I saw this over at The Fun House and thought it would be interesting to see how many of these I have read. Quite a few as it turns out. I love to read. Before the baby, I read 2-3 books a week. Since she came along, I am down to about one a week, which I think is still pretty good.

The
Big Read is a USA National Endowment for the Arts program designed to encourage community reading initiatives and of their top 100 books, they estimate the average adult has read only six. I do wonder how exactly this list was created because there are a lot that I would think would be on there and some that surprised me are on it. Among others, I would probably add Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

1. Look at the list and bold those you have read.

2. Italicize those you intend to read.

3. Underline (or color) the books you LOVE .

Share this list in your blog, too, if you like.

  1. Nice post! I've read a few of those and seen many more as movies. I loved the 5 People You Meet in Heaven book. All my kids read that one too. All of us cried.

And the DaVinci Code. I liked that one. I won't go on and list all from the list (whew! right? lol)

And, Remains of the Day was the WORST movie I've ever seen! lol

Have you ever read The Christmas Box? Or any in that series? I've read them and seen the movie. Time for tissues! Great books.

  2. What a great post idea. I'll try it myself in a few weeks when I have my head on straight.

I am going to have to insist that you, as a mother of a girl, read Anne of Green Gables and its many sequels (either now or when the Bean is old enough). Also, watch the movies. Please!

  3. I read 49 of these books, maybe 50. But I had to put the full reply on my own post - not enough room here!

  4. I'm glad you did this! I agree--I wonder who compiled this and why they chose the books they did. They are many more that "should" be on there. There is a list out there--The Modern Library Top 100 or something like that--and my husband set out to read all the books on there--and there were some really obscure ones! So far he's read all but 2.

You really should read Confederacy of Dunces--a truly amazing book and my personal favorite.
