Friday Fancies

- I had my first photography class last night. I got an SLR last Christmas and I barely know how to use it, so one of my girlfriends and I are taking an intro class at community college. I was actually kind of nervous going in, but I really enjoyed it. Even if I did get the stink eye from the teacher for talking during class.

- Daylight savings continues to kick my butt. Sophie, despite going to bed at her normal time, has been getting up an hour early all week. If I take a nap in the afternoon, I have trouble going to sleep at night, but if I don't take a nap, I'm run down from lack of sleep and still can't get to sleep until midnight. This girl needs to sleep in.

- I just bought Happiest Toddler On The Block. I had kind of decided that I was done with parenting books, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I had to put Sophie in time-out no less than 10 times yesterday. Including once at Old Navy. And that's not counting the 3 times the ladies gave her while at gym childcare. I liked the Happiest Baby book and this one came recommended by a good friend, so hopefully we can make some positive changes. Before this kid drives me to drink. More.

- Am I the only woman that looks at other women's behinds and wonders how mine compares to it? Ie, is it bigger or smaller? Not in criticism of the other women, but just wondering how mine looks to the world. As an aside, the other day a girlfriend of mine told me what she weighed and I about fell off my chair. I thought we were close to the same size, turns out she's FORTY pounds lighter. Clearly my perception of myself is WAY off.

- Sophie loves the movie Cars. We start it all the time, but never finish it because we'll stop it to go, you know, DO SOMETHING. So yesterday was the first time I have seen the end since I first saw it several years ago. When Lightening pushed Mr. The King over the finish line? Waterworks. I'm such a sap.

- I'm going away for a girls' weekend next week to the mountains of Tennessee. It's only the second time in her life that I will be leaving Sophie. Teensy bit nervous, but so excited for this little vacay. Mama needs a break.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I'm always excited when I think a book might be able to help me improve aspects of my life -- just take it all with a grain of salt and put up your anti-guilt armor before you start reading (that's my advice for all parenting books, not the one you chose in particular).

I have no idea how my body compares to others (in general, not favorably) and also think my perception is way off. I think I look okay, but if I knew what my butt looked like to other people, I would probably feel sad.

Cars rocks! The ending is fantastic and I also get emotional during the musical interlude when they go through the history of Radiator Springs and how it started getting to be such a lonely place.

So excited for you that you are getting away! Woo hoo!

  2. I am always checking out other ladies butts. "Hmmm, I'd like that one, or maybe I could get mine to look like that". I think Ryan was questioning my orientation for awhile there. I just told him "No I'm butt shopping". Hope you like the book. I use some of the techniques often, others not. Pick and choose what works.

  3. I always compare butts...just so you know...I'll be checking your's out next weekend!

The only time I've left mine has been to go have more, once one night for business, and last Feb when I had my appendectomy...yeah, kinda nervous about leaving the youngest.

  4. So, when I got married a month ago there were lots of pictures of me. I am fairly good in my weight and I know that.....so I am not too concerned about the size of my arse. However, photos have revealed a) my bottom is lumpy! and b) my back skin will hang over the top of my dress. Yes, getting old is such a good time......eyes rolling.

  5. I feel like I wrote this posting!

First of all, YES, daylights savings time is also kicking my ass. Damn you, Daylight Savings!! My baby (who's not really much of a baby anymore) has been waking up at LEAST an hour earlier than she usually does ever since daylight savings. It's crazy how an hour can throw everything off, but it has.

I, too, have just started reading Happiest Toddler on the Block. I ready The Happiest Baby, and I liked it. Now that the babe is about to be one years old, she is walking and getting into EVERYTHING, I thought perhaps I should read what Karp has to say about the toddler years.

And finally, I always look at woman's behinds. I think lots of women compare, whether they'll admit it or not!

I hope you have a fabulous getaway. YOU DESERVE THIS!!!

  7. This post cracked me up...you're by no means the only woman who looks at other women! I've been spending a lot of time in the gym (pre-holiday Boot Camp) and I am amazed by the shape that some of these women are in! It's ridiculous!!! I have heard good things about those books...twin moms swear by them...maybe I should get one too!

  12. I'm so thankful that you are taking that class. Maybe you can pass along your knowledge to me since I don't know how to use my fancy-schmancy camera.
