Because My Brain Just Can't Come Up With More

- I haven't talked about it, but I am going to Blogher '10 in New York City next week. I was excited, and then I was kind of blah, and now I'm excited again. And starting to stress out about the usual girl things: what to wear, how many pairs of shoes will fit in my suitcase, can I lose 20 pounds in the next 9 days. I have my roommates lined up at the Hilton and I am ready to get my groove on. If you're going, let me know, let's exchange numbers and promise to meet up.

- We pulled up the carpet from the second floor. I had pulled up some corners and I was optimistic that the hard wood floors underneath would be in decent shape. I am happy to report that they are gorgeous! There are a couple of spots but nothing that gives me any anxiety. Yay for quality craftsmanship in older houses!

- Hallelujah for the premium channel TV shows coming back to kill the summer TV drought. Closer, Mad Men, Being Human, My Boys: you're saving me from eating my foot out of boredom.

- And speaking of feet. I went to the doctor and they did some x-rays. It's a heel spur. Yay. It's painful and has pretty much put a stop to my running career. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually disappointed. I didn't like running, but it has a meditative quality that I enjoyed. I'm still working out, but no running.

- Our house has three temperature zones: arctic, temperate and tropical. In our bedrooms on the second floor, we're stripped down to skivvies, laying under the ceiling fan arguing about which direction its supposed to turn. In the basement TV/family room, we're bundled up in fluffy socks underneath my leopard print Snuggie. We've had the repair men out to make sure our AC works right. It does. And we've tried every combination of closed/open vents. Always the same result. It's maddening.

- Did I mention I'm going to Blogher? Yeah. Three days. No cooking. No housework. No "mommy, mommy, mooommmmeeeee!" Ahhh.

  1. How badly do I wish that I were going to BlogHer? Really badly.

Next year, next year or possibly Blissdom if Sweet P decides she's open to a bottle by then. Have so much fun!

We have similar temperature issues at our house -- basement freezing, main floor decent, and top floor sweaty. We typically have a window box upstairs to help do the job the central air can't quite seem to do, but didn't think prospective buyers of our home would like to see that.

  2. Yay I get to meet you in TWO FREAKING WEEKS. Wow. I was excited, then overcome with guilt about going, and thinking about not going, then I got super dooper excited again, and now, just recently, I'm getting anxiety and guilt ridden again, and truly sick about leaving my boys for 2 days. Blah. But... still excited. YAHOOOOO!!!!!

  4. I wondered if you were going, based on some tweets I thought I saw out of the corner of my eye. That's great! You are going to have so much fun! Did you go last year?

Our house has those temp zones too. The home office is always the hottest place. And that's usually where I am at the computer. Panting.

  5. What about insulation in the roof/attic?

So does the heel spur mean no Warrior Dash?

    Have fun at BlogHer!

  6. The fan should turn so that it draws air up, in the summer - and pushes air down in the cooler months.

  9. Congrats on the hardwood, not so much on the AC. And the spur really sucks, will it heal, or is this ending your running for life?

  11. OOOOhhhhh I'm so jealous and was just wondering if you would just, you know, out of the kindness of your heart, please surrender your ticket to New York for dear, sweet me. Thanks. If not, I will still love you, but just not like you for a second.....:)
Seriously, have a blast. I can't complain really. I have been sans kids for going on 3 weeks. I could have already gone to NY, and danced the go-go on Regis and Kelly, and come back......Sheesh....poor planning on my part.

  14. I have to admit I'm a little jealous that you are going to BlogHer... I was going to go too, but it coincided with our vacation, so... scrapped it :-(

have lots and lots of fun!

And may I recommend jeans and a cute top or a maxy dress and gladiators for the day, and an easy dress or pants and a cute top for the night. Keep it simple and fairly comfortable, so you can walk, move, and dance :-)

  16. I'd pull up our carpet in a heartbeat except there's just crappy sub floor underneath. :( Ah well one day I'll win the lottery and put hardwood everywhere.

We have the same issue with the downstairs being WAY cooler than the upstairs & it's worse this year b/c of the deck. It's always been a difference but now with the deck not much sunshine comes in downstairs so it's even worse.

Have fun @ BlogHer! I also appreciate your time for blogging too. Just wanted to add that. :)

  18. Have such an awesome time at BlogHer. I will be missing you!! How cool would it be to explore NYC together?
Jealous of your gorgeous hardwoods. Any chance there's something fabulous under the disgusting 20 year old vinyl floor in my kitchen? Don't think so.

This type of post is perfect for Friday Fragments, just so you know, for future reference. It's so easy, yet so satisfying. link up some time :)

  20. Our house is exactly the same. I set all the fans to go counter clockwise. Set them back clockwise when you turn the heat on. Have a great time at BlogHer.
