Werebaby

When Sophie was born, she had very little hair. What was there, though, was dark and short. She also had a fair amount on her body and head, including quite furry ears. I called her my little werebaby. I worried during full moons that she would start howling and run off in search of prey. Luckily, that never happened and the hair on her body slowly disappeared.

Over the months, her hair has gotten lighter. Now it is a dark blond. Not quite the towhead that I was as a child, but still much lighter than it was at birth. I have cute little clips to put in her hair, but so far they won't stay in place. I see other babies of approximately the same age, some of whom have a significant amount of hair and I dream of the day when I can braid my darling daughter's hair.

That day is not here yet, though. For now, the front of her hair seems to be growing at a snail's pace while the back continues to get longer. I want to cut it off, but I feel bad taking what little there is. So despite my increasing urge to go for the scissors, I think I'll let it go for just a little while longer. She's just so cute with her sweet baby mullet.

  2. Summer has that almost "mullet" thing going on too. Longer in the back than in the fron. But what can you do? I pierced her ears, cause that girl won't wear a bow if I duct tape it to her head!

  4. The frustrating thing about having girls is that often by the time their hair is long enough (and not baby-fine anymore) to do anything with, they no longer want to have ANYTHING to do with you doing their hair! It's very frustrating--I've spent lots of $$ on cute little hair accessories (you know that ones from Gymboree that you can get to match all of their outfits) all for naught!

Love the Clifford slippers! So cute!

  5. She's adorable with her little mullet. While they don't necessarily work on older people, mullets are just so cute on babies. Azita's hair seems to be doing the same thing. It's growing longer in the back but not really growing at all in the front. Roger is getting really excited at the prospect of a mullet -- she will of course be keeping up a fine Hughlett family tradition.

  7. Try "No Slippy Hair Clippy." I bought tons of these for Pickle and they stay in place really well even w/ very little hair!

  9. My daughter still has a baby mullet and she's almost two. I can't stand the thought of trimming what is barely there. I say stick with the mullet. She's an adorable precious sweet little baby and she's perfect in every way!

  10. Ah, she's so cute. My girls had hair like Sophies. When they finally grew their hair I still couldn't put clips in there cuz they just ripped them out. Oh the frustration, ha ha ha.

I like the snow up against the door in the pic. I'm guessing that was from your trip.? lol

  11. Oh yeah. I believe babies and toddlers can get away with just about any look. She looks great! Especially with those Clifford slippers!

Fly's hair came in very slowly and unevenly, so I let it grow just for the reason you mentioned -- I felt bad taking away any of it because he actually had so little hair. It's usually wild now, and I really should take him to get a "real" haircut rather than just trim it now and then with my own scissors.

  13. Oh Amen to that!

If it makes any difference, Carley will be two in March and I am just starting to notice her bangs growing. She's got the same baby mullet going on. I was going to take her for a haircut (in the back) a few weeks ago, but my family seemed to protest. I'm thinking this is a normal growth pattern, but it sure makes it hard to put in those hairbows!

  14. I so know what you mean. I seemed to have to wait forever before I could put ponies in Claire's hair. Jake on the other hand was ready at birth.

  16. Corinne's hair has grown SO SLOWLY. I never expected this. My boys had hair that grew like grass. But my daughter, the one who WANTS long pigtails and braids, gets the slow hair.

    Sigh.

Love the slippers. She's a cutie.

  18. Adorable. Love her hair, her slippers, and her choice of beverage.

She'll have plenty of bow-wearing years in her future!
