Still? Still.

This sickness still has its grimy paws on the parental units in the Land of Bean. Neil and I actually slept in the same bed last night for the first time in three days. Of course, I use the term sleep loosely because most of the night was spent blowing noses and coughing, with some tossing and turning thrown in for good measure and then we were awakened by the babe banging on her door at the unholy hour of 4:45am.

Backing up to explain why Sophie was BANGING on her door. We had a major upheaval around here yesterday. Sophie finally decided that she would be contained by a mere crib no longer. After escaping four times yesterday, despite all efforts to prevent it, we decided it was time to convert her crib to a toddler bed. So at 8:30 last night, an hour and a half after her bedtime, Neil worked to safetyize her room while I did the bed conversion. Mostly because that task allowed me to stay sitting down most of the time.

Luckily, Sophie adjusted to her bed pretty easily. And by easily, I mean I had to crawl into that little bed with her, no mean feat for this, ahem, curvy gal, and then cuddle her until she fell asleep. Then, of course, I'm stuck with trying to figure out how to get out without waking her up. Fortunately, my steel trap of a brain recalled the old Hug and Roll. Fifteen minutes later, as I watched her on the monitor, she literally slithered out of her bed onto the floor where she slept for a couple of hours, until I couldn't look at it anymore and I went in and ever so gently moved her back into her bed.

She made it through the night fine, but when she woke up at 4:45, unconstrained by a crib, she got right up and began banging on her door. This is a rather unpleasant way to be awakened, especially when you're sick, but when does my girl do anything halfway? Never, that's when.

So now our baby is in her sortof big girl bed. Seriously, it's killing me.

  1. Oh wow! The big bed! We are as we speak, mulling this topic over. It shouldn't happen while one is sick, though. Wow. BIg step for you guys.

  3. I feel bad for you, but at the same time when I watch that clip, Ross's face when he says "Hug for her" makes me fall into a fit of giggles.

  13. But there are worse ways to wake up than with a cute baby knocking on the door.

My Honey made our baby crying her cellphone text-message alert. Yesterday morning, while she was taking a shower and I was still asleep, she left her phone on her pillow. Someone left a message. I woke up sweating, certain my baby was stuck in an airless echo chamber, crying for his daddy to help him breathe.

  14. I am dreading the day when Axel figures out he can escape from the crib. Thankfully, he hasn't yet figured out that he can use his newfound climbing skills on a crib.

I want to send this post to my mom, fifteen years ago, to prove to her that people DO learn important things from TV. Like the hug and roll.

  16. I hope you get better soon.
There is something so unfair about being sick in May!
Looks like you had a nice Hurrah before getting sick.
    Those crabs looked delicious!

I'd never seen that episode, but I am familiar with the hug and roll as it's gotten me out of the boys rooms on more than one occasion. This is cracking me up though, because what do you do with that arm? I'ts a mystery.

Hope you get some sleep tonight. I'm not going to lie. It's a bit rough those first few weeks of toddler bed. The best of luck I'm sending your way, and I hope you're feeling better soon!

  17. Ahhhh the hug and roll, lol. I SO forgot about that episode. I just love that show.

One upside to this, is that you are dealing with being sick AND the adjustments to a big girl bed...it's like killing two birds w/one stone.

The down side is you are dealing with being sick AND the adjustments to a big girl bed.

    :) sorry.

Hope you all feel better soon, it sounds like it reallllly sucks. Or should I say 'blows'? lol :)
