The End Of An Affair

Dear Reese's Peanut Butter Cup,

We've had a good go of it. I think we both gave it our all. At first, it felt like there was so much of you. It felt like we would never come to the bottom of the bowl. I was certain that we shouldn't, but isn't forbidden fruit always the sweetest.

I cherished every moment we spent together. I savored every nibble. Your allure is easy to recognize. That enticing contrast of salt and sweet. How could I resist you?

But then things turned sour. First, it was a queasiness that just wouldn't go away. Then it was a giant pimple on the side of my nose. I don't even want to think about the havoc you have wreaked on my thighs. But it was when I saw my one year old daughter sucking on an empty wrapper that I realized it was time for this affair to end.

So, goodbye, sweet Peanut Butter Cup. I'll cherish these times we've spent together. I do hope that we can be friends, perhaps we can get together from time to time for a bite.

I'll always love you,

Cara

PS - We'll always have outer space.

  1. Thanks for a wonderful morning chuckle. Always great when I can start my day off in a fun way! I really enjoyed that post. I think I shall have to say goodbye to my Snickers now. LOL..

  3. I know the feeling. We always buy one bag of Halloween candy that we don't like, hoping the kids will take that first. This way, I won't eat all of the leftover candy. It worked pretty well. I ate all of the Butterfingers but threw out the leftover Pay Days and Blow Pops. We'll consider it a draw.

  4. I once had an affair like that, with mint frangos. I hid them in the back of the fridge so my husband would forget about them. I almost cried while I savored the last one. That video is hilarious!

  5. And now to think that peanut butter and chocolate was such a "far out" combination back then. (Did you like my pun there? I'm a little proud of it.)

  6. You always have me laughing when I read your blog!! I am currently having an affair with Reese's and still loving it!! Halloween is a good excuse to have to buy a bag and then go hide it so I can eat every last one myself!!

  7. LOL! I think it's safe to say that the peanut butter/chocolate combo is the best flavor marriage ever created. I had to break it off w/ mini Trader Joe's peanut butter cups. I was spending way too much time w/ them!

  10. Oh you know I snagged all the Reese's cups out of the kids' Halloween stashes!

I love that you are holding it in the "Twilight pose"!

  11. Aw, thinking of you. (Hugs)

But hey -- Reeses comes in ice cream, and there's no plastic wrap to suck on, right? And think of this -- you could totally save it for nap time.

I'm simply suggesting alternatives as I NEED my chocolate to get through my days.

  13. I think I had similar parting words with the starburst and m&M's in my cupboard this week....(only I said von voyage and sent them to Daddy and his crew in the middle east...I'm sure they'll enjoy it more anyway.....love the letter....

  14. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

But there are other chocolates in the sea.

  15. How desperately sad that I remember that commercial. Cara, we are showing our age here!

I would love to tell Reese's goodbye...I would. But then those little tree-shaped ones are out now and they call to me in the middle of the night. Most of the time I don't answer, but every now and then I run to them...with a Whitney Houston ballad as my soundtrack.
