Nope

I'm not going to talk about Sophie's 18 month appointment on Friday. I'm not going to talk about how there are some concerns about her hearing and that we have an appointment in a couple of weeks with an Audiologist to check it out. I'm not going to talk about how frustrated I get by pediatricians who use charts and statistics rather than getting to know their patients. I'm not going to talk about how helpless I feel, how I always feel like I'm giving the wrong answers. I'm not going to talk about the absolute MELTDOWN my daughter had when any of the nurses, doctor or the researcher for the study we're participating in tried to touch her. I'm not going to talk about the computer my daughter somehow pulled out of it's anchoring on the wall in the exam room.

I'm not going to talk about any of that unpleasant stuff, because the weather we've had the last few days has been too beautiful to be down or negative.

Instead let's just focus on the good quality play time we had outside and my beautiful little darling waving at her daddy while he mowed the yard.

  1. I do that too with the doctor...always feel like I give the wrong answers! But you do just fine Mama! They are throwing so many questions at you, and you know your daughter better than ANY one in this world! So don't worry, I'm sure you did fine!
The testing with the Audiologist will ease your mind more. They have equiptment that can test Sophie's ear's and response's insides that will tell you things even if Sophie is not cooperating and pulling computers out of the walls:) (remember Summer gives those ear Dr's a run for their money too!)

She does look beautiful there in the sunlight waving to her daddy!

  3. FIrst, what a beautiful photo. And you know everything is going to be alright - you do know that don't you? Everything will fall into place and if you are not happy with your current doctor perhaps you will find a new one that you adore. I am wishing all the best for you.

  5. Way to be a "glass-half-full" kind of gal. I loathe doctors who use charts.

  6. Sophie looks about perfectly happy and healthy to me, and isn't "not listening" a part of toddlerhood? :]

    *hugs*

  7. Look at that gorgeous baby!

(And start asking around for a pediatrician that other moms really like...)

I find that they are the ones who make you feel stupid I have a female and she is great never makes me feel dumb and always asks if there is anything eles i need to ask and does not have an issue when I call with questions..

  10. Interesting. She sounds so much like my middle child. Not only the (off the charts low percentiles) But Esp when you mentioned audiologist. They thought she had hearing issues as well. As it turns out she just didn't feel like listening. (serious).

Good luck. Think sunny days and enjoy that warm wonderful smile that kid ALWAYS has on her face! She's so beautiful.

  11. I am with Jori, maybe its time to switch doctors. You know one that actually makes you feel good about being a mom and how well the Bean is doing. They are out there, I promise.

  12. I sometimes find myself trying to anticipate the "right" answer at the pediatrician's office and have almost nodded my head to things that were not true about my child just to, you know, be right or have the approval of the doctor. Urgh.

Isn't the computer thing just a little bit funny now? If not now, it will be in a few weeks or years.

Hang in there, mama. You're doing a great job and have a healthy, happy daughter!

  13. I'm so sorry. Nothing bugs me more than those charts. Hang in there as I am sure this would stress me out.

She is such a cutie pie!

  14. Ah shoot! That stinks! I'll be praying for you guys!

By the way, I am TOTALLY a charts and statistics kind of girl...

  15. She is gorgeous--waving on her slide.

And we won't mention this again--but dude--find a new doctor. Seriously. It will make all the difference in the world.

  16. The computer thing, while mortifying, is quite an acheivement. Really!
Tests of any kind are scary.
What I kept telling myself when T was getting tested for speech, was that regardless of the "diagnosis," he would remain the same kid I already knew and loved. The only "new" thing, would be the diagnosis, which, in the worst case scenario, would aid in getting him any help he might need.
The important thing is finding doctors you feel comfortable with so that it's not so maddening to go through all the testing.
Hoping for the best for you all.
Glad you had a sunshine weekend!

LOVE the picture. Could she be any more darling?!?!?

  18. Good idea. Let's focus on her because she is a DOLL!

Hope things turn out the way you want...

  19. Two things that may comfort you: Axel failed his hearing tests recently, likely because of leftover ear infection junk in his ears. I myself have moderate hearing loss, and have since I was a kid, and I turned out OK.

I love that picture. Looks like Sophie's running for mayor of the backyard. She's got my vote!

  20. I was also my first thought that you switch doctors. I am sure there are some out there who will be more attune to your (and your child's) needs.
