M-ow!-lars

After months of anticipation; many, many sleepless nights; and a lot of crying, we finally had a breakthrough today. A molar! This afternoon, after more than her normal share of fussing, I picked her up from a failed nap to find spots of crimson on her shoulder. At first, I looked around her head and body, thinking that she had injured herself somehow. When I found no wounds, I looked in her gaping maw as she belted out another howl and saw the unpleasant looking spot where a new tooth had finally made its appearance. It's not pretty and I suspect there will be more suffering associated with it, but thank goodness it finally broke through.

This tooth has been threatening us for months. At her 9 month appointment, the pediatrician said that based on her swollen gums, she anticipated her molars breaking through imminently. So every stuffy nose, every sleepless night, every crying fit, I attributed to these molars that were coming through "any day now." And every day, no tooth.

Thank goodness this is the last tooth. What? There's more you say? Crap.

  1. Poor Sophie. It's good that they won't remember this time though. Mady only has 2 teeth! The top 2 look like they are finally coming but Sophie is already getting molars and Mady is still chewing with her 2 front teeth :)

  2. Poor Sophie! Hopefully it'll all be over soon! I always say...it's amazing how ONE LITTLE TINY thing in your body can cause so much distress! It can throw you completely off! (I've had 8 root canals in the last 4 years - not due to bad brushing, but due to old cavaties from my teenage years - fillings giving way.) Arghhh!
It's gotta be tex times worse for the little ones who not only can't express the pain verbally, but don't know what the heck is making them feel aweful.
Good luck! Hope she cuts them all quickly!

  4. I think the molars are the hardest teeth for them to get in. Don't worry, they won't all be that bad! I'm sorry about your lack of sleep, though!

  9. Oh the teeth. They just. keep. coming. The molars are horrible, and the eyeteeth are only a little better at best. My son has all of his teeth, and my daughter is busting out eyeteeth right this very minute. We will be done until 2 yo molars. And I think my son is actually already working those up too!

Hang in there. It sucks, I know. All I can say is stock up on the tylenol.
